The Cooks River is a wonderful retreat from the city. Stroll along the waterway and see the beauty of the still water and perfectly manicured glassland. You soon feel calm and relaxed. Joggers and people walking their dogs, with the noise of the birds singing.

Bobbin Head is within the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. 31km (19.5 miles) from Sydney CBD. A beautiful quaint picnic area with many walking and riding tracks through the mangroves. There are brochures and maps readily available. Or just sit by the waters edge with a picnic and watch the boats go by. Some even take their jet skis and venture along the estuary, which meets the Hawkesbury River.

Part of the Great Diving Range that stretches from Gippsland, Victoria to the tropical rainforest in north Queensland, the Blue Mountains are one of Australias most visited attractions. The mountains peak at 1000m and are named after the colour they appear to have. This blue is due to the vast forest of eucalypts trees that discharge a fine mist of eucalyptus in the hot sun.

Everglades in Leura is one of the most delightful National Trust Gardens. It has stunning terraces, winding paths of rows of roses and beautifully placed ornaments all set looking over the Jamieson Valley. Take a picnic or enjoy the wonderful Devonshire Teas.

Set in the cool climate of Mt.Tomah the Botanic Gardens is home to over 5,000 species of plants. A great place to explore and sit back with a cream tea and see the beautiful views across the mountains.

Pictons Thirlmere Lakes is unspoilt bushland that extends over 5 kilometers. Not far from Sydney city, it is a wonderful place to picnic. Cycle or walk along the many tracks and perhaps take a dip in the clear waters. Incrediably peaceful, it is an escape from city life with beaches, tables and even electric BBQs!

Royal National Park is the second largest park. It is very popular for those who enjoy cycling or walking. Being close to the city it is a great way to escape the heat under the cool shade of the turpentine trees. See the clear waters and falls. Visit the boat house and visitors center.

Take in the stunning views along The Grand Pacific Drive. Its road stretches from Sydney to as far south as Nowra. Travel over the spectacular Sea Cliff Bridge between Coalcliff and Clifton which rises 600 meters over the ocean. Explore the coastal villages, rainforests and wonderful beaches of the Southern Highlands.

Carson Place, Woolongong. South of the industrious city. A peaceful and quiet place to get away from it all. Climb to the top of the hill and view the prime coast line. The excellent beaches and small estuaries all the way to Kiama. Cycle or walk along the trail and appreciate all the beautiful surroundings.

Nelson Lagoon is located within the Mimosa Rocks National Park, on the south east coast. A fabulous hide away and one of the most picturesque places. Shallow turquoise clear waters and fine white sands make this a very popular picnic spot.

Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley is the second major suspension bridge built in New South Wales and is the only surviving timer deck vehicular suspension bridge built in the nineteeth century. Wonder across and feel the shake as the heavy lorries tramper over. Its towers show its importance. It did facilitate the agriculture in Kangaroo Valley as a majaor crossing to the south of the state.

Wagonga Inlet, Narooma. A pretty destination of natural beauty. Enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk or catch a boat out to Montague Island and see the penguins. A great holiday for golfers, walkers and cyclist alike.

Moruya Heads is a small coastal village at the outlet of the Moruya River. Beautiful sands and clear water. A great place for the kids to build their sand castles. Whilst at the south end, the sea roars and is great for wind surfing.

Montague Island is a unique reserve 8 kilometers off the coast of Narooma. Charter boats take visitors over to tour the island to see the old lighthouse, which was commission in 1881 and hear the history of those who lived there. The island is also a migratory resting place for the many 'little pengiuns', seals and turtles.

Merimbula is a charming fishing village. Many scenic picnic areas to look out across the clear and enticing blue sea. There are cycle lanes or boardwalks to venture around the area and discover what a picturesque place it is.
